Mountain View-based LensVector came out of stealth today, and says it has closed $30M in a Series C and has now raised $50M. Institutional Venture Partners led with existing investors Menlo Ventures, Samsung, Silicon Valley Bank, Mitsui and Kodak. LensVector's tech will be sold for both still and video cameras. Their goal is to bring auto focus functionality to cameras without mechanical moving parts. LensVector later migrate to the proliferation of micro-cameras in laptops, netbooks, pocket video camera and other devices. The big picture is "to replace all the mechanical aspects of a camera with solid-state alternatives, starting with autofocus,” says the company's CEO Derek Proudian. Full story...
