The Johns Hopkins University/Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL), a national leader in scientific research and development located in Laurel, MD, is seeking professionals who are experienced in systems, network, security, and purchasing administration of UNIX, Linux, MacOS, and Windows computers and related hardware. Position responsibilities include:• Support for the complete operating system including unix shell tools, gnome/kde tools, network services, startup and shutdown scripts, printing, and backups• Ensure that computers meet NISPOM Chapter 8 security requirements• Migration planning• Install, upgrade, and support all application-level software• Install, upgrade, and maintain all networking hardware (switches, cables, patch panels, NICs

Requirements:• BS degree in IT or related field or 5 years relevant experience • Previous network and systems administration of a unix/linux facility • Familiarity with vi and unix shell scripting and/or PERL scripting Ability to install kernel or software from source if needed• Ablilty to maintain DNS Services, MySQL Database Services, and unix/linux Grids and Clusters, and LDAP Services.
